Piers Jackson

Piers Jackson was born in 1970 and educated at Orwell Park School (1979-1983) and Haileybury
(1983-1988). In 1988 Jackson was given an unconditional offer to study Art/History of Art at
Goldsmiths, University of London. He deferred his entrance by a year and went travelling in India.
On his return Jackson exhibited paintings of his travels and decided not to attend Goldsmiths.
In 1993 after a visit to New York Piers Jackson chose to stop working in oils and gave up
figurative painting. He began working on glass using gold leaf and encaustic paint.
In 1996 Jackson was introduced to surrealism by critic George Melly who leant the artist his
personal copy of Nadia by Andre Breton. Jackson begun to make artwork inspired by Breton’s
writings which Melly described as “a move on from Surrealism”. In a work from the late 90’s
Jackson included a cube, using it to describe the relationships between primary and secondary
colours. This was the beginning of his obsession with geometry.
Between 1989 and 2003 Piers Jackson worked full time as an artist. He exhibited regularly in
London using disused shops as well as commercial venues.
In 2005 James Birch – well known for having exhibited Francis Bacon’s work in Moscow -
arranged for Jackson’s first gallery show at Eyestorm in Central London.
In 2007 Elvira Gonzalez Rodriguez travelled to London on the recommendation of the artist’s
brother to visit Piers Jackson’s Marylebone studio. She immediately started exhibiting Jackson’s
work at her gallery ENCANT in Menorca.
In 2019 Piers Jackson left his Manchester Street studio where he had worked since 2002 and
moved to Suffolk. He now lives and works in Bury St Edmunds.
In 2024 Piers Jackson collaborated with Piaget on their 2025-2026 global window designs.
